Firestorm Campaign

Welcome to the Firestorm Campaign landing page!

This is a post in which I'll record the conquests of my Sunsplitter orruks as they battle for dominance over the Flamescar Plateau against the forces of Death, Order and Chaos.

Four contending warlords, one from each Grand Alliance, are all determined to wrest the control of this vast expanse of land to themselves alongside its riches and resources. Who shall emerge victorious? The deep ranks of the valorous warriors of Order? The howling hordes of Destruction? The savage servants of the gods of Chaos? The endless ethereal hosts of Death?

Only time will tell. If you wish to read more about the contending factions, their background and their leaders, you might want to take a look at our Factions of the Firestorm.

This campaign has now come to its conclusion and the undisputed victor is known. Through countless schemes and sheer magical prowess the Chaotic forces of Cult Hu have taken over the Flamescar Plateau and driven off their enemies!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the setup at the beginning of the war:

  • The forces of Destruction begin their conquest from the Magebane Dungeons with an altar in the Valley of the Fallen Gods
  • The ethereal fleet of Death arrives from the Searing Sea with an altar in the Lake of Shackled Spirits
  • The hordes of Chaos descend upon the land from the Parching Wastes with an altar at the Eyes of the Prismatikon
  • The legions of Order have landed on the shores of the Coast of Ill Omens with an altar at the Titanworks
  • The Realmgate is currently located at the Infinity Gears
The Warlords are currently gathering their armies to launch conquests into the Flamescar Plateau, and the first clashes of the war are expected to erupt soon.

The forces of Destruction and Chaos clashed at the Battle of the Vitriolic Swamps, resulting in a victory for Destruction. The Sunsplitter orruks built a Garrison in the swamps after the battle, while the followers of Chaos did likewise in the Parching Wastes.

As Garrisons can lend aid to battles taking place in adjacent regions, it seems that the stage is set for more conflicts to erupt between Destruction and Chaos in the north.

After the battle of the swamps, the Realmgate shifted south and reappeared at the Sporehollows. Rumours are spreading throughout the land that the Tzeentchian mage had something to do with this shift of the gate's location...

A vanguard force of the Ghosts of the Crimson Path attempted a Landing at the Black Iron Peninsula but were beaten back by the determined resistance of Magister Zhik'Akoot-Cot and his warband. The Chaos forces founded a Garrison in the peninsula to preserve it against further Death incursions.

The war for the Flamescar Plateau escalates further as the armies of Death enter the fray. Despite suffering a loss against orruks at the Vitriolic Swamps earlier, the chaotic Cult Hu has now gained a solid foothold in the north-east. The Dreadfleet still continues to sail the seas, looking for a fragile region to invade and fortify for further conquest.

After the battle, Magister Zhik'Akoot-Cot somehow managed to gain control over the floating Realmgate through arcane means and made it reappear at the Scoured Forest.

Once more the vanguard flotilla of Death fought for a foothold on the mainland, this time sailing along the rivers to assail the Order settlements in the north. At the Battle of the Sorrowpeaks the Thule Brotherhood beat back the invading spirits after a brief but bloody struggle in the freezing rain, resulting in the Freeguilds strengthening their grip on the region. Beaten, the Ghosts of the Crimson Path sailed back to their stronghold on the islands in the Searing Sea to build a Garrison there.

With the last of the four Grand Alliances now making an appearance, all the battling forces of the Flamescar Plateau have partaken in the war at least once. Each army now holds a region except for the Ghosts of the Crimson Path, who still seek an opening in the defenses of the mainland to set up an outpost from which to launch further invasions.

After the battle the Realmgate reappeared at the Sporehollows.

Having regained their strength in the newly-founded Garrison in the Searing Sea, the Ghosts of the Crimson Path descended once more upon the unwary. They made a Landfall at Razorfang Sprawl (read the same battle from Death perspective here) and ambushed a warband of oblivious orruk hunters that had ventured into the region. There was a swift slaughter that saw the entire Sunsplitterz mob slain or lost in the unknown depths of unstable realmgates.

The forces of Death built a Garrison in the Razorfang Sprawl to reinforce their claim on the land. Finally, after several failed attempts, the Ghosts of the Crimson Path had managed to gain a foothold on the mainland. Now all the four great armies control regions in the contested Flamescar Plateau!

After the battle the Realmgate shifted to Tears of Fate.

A comet fell down from the skies, tearing a bright golden wound across the vault of the sky. It landed in the Tears of Fate with a mighty crash, shaking the ground for leagues around it.  Two factions were immediately upon it: both an expedition of the Thule Brotherhood and a warband of Cult Hu had predicted the comet's landing and were waiting for it, fighting each other under the gold-striped sky in Battle of the Tears of Fate for the possession of that strange heavenly orb. Ultimately the cultists of Magister Zhik'Akoot-Cot gained the upper and drove the beaten freeguilders from the region.

In order to examine their newest claim in peace, the forces of Chaos built a Garrison around the fallen comet as their Magister began solving its mysteries. With this victory, Cult Hu now controls more regions than any other faction! Their dominion is strong especially in the east; how long before they spread their claim over the entirety of the Flamescar Plateau?

After the battle the Realmgate shifted to Scoured Forest.

Prophet Wozoc Squinteye led his warband of ferocious Sunsplitter orruks on a daring strike against the Chaos Altar located in the Eyes of the Prismatikon, intent on interrupting whatever curious ritual was taking place there. Magister Zhik'Akoot-Cot mustered his own followers in defence of this sacred site and succesfully defeated the orruks in the Battle for the Eyes of the Prismatikon, scattering the brutes to the four winds. The forces of Chaos built a Garrison in the region for protection against any further attacks.

In their attempt to forestall the implacable advance of the Magister's armies, Wozoc and his tribe only made things worse: Cult Hu now holds the majority of the eastern regions of the Flamescar Plateau in an iron grasp.

After the battle the Realmgate shifted to Titanworks.

As soon as the Realmgate appeared in the Titanworks, a company of soldiers from the Thule Brotherhood marched forth from its depths. When Prophet Wozoc Squinteye heard of this "bunch of 'umie scum" so close to his tribe's lands, he led his warriors on a daring strike to drive out these would-be invaders. The brutal Battle of the Titanworks took place amidst the rusty ruins of ancient factories and titan remains, resulting in the leader of the Sunsplitterz running for his life once again. The orruks were badly beaten and slain to the last.

With this victory the forces of Order have begun to establish a strong presence in the west, slowly but surely forming a bastion upon which the tide of chaos would hopefully crash. Is Thule Brotherhood the only thing standing in between Cult Hu and their ambition to rule all of Aqshy?

After the battle the Realmgate shifted to Sporehollows.

The forces of Chaos received reinforcements as a warband of frenzied Bloodbound emerged onto the plateau from the south. Seeking to protect their nearby temple, the Ghosts of the Crimson Path attempted to stem this flow of new enemies and fought them in the Battle of the Riven Depths, but to no avail. The worshippers of Khorne had come to stay.

Not bothering to fortify the land they had just conquered, the Bloodbound pressed on with the fury of a madman. Are they to regroup with Cult Hu in the north east, or is this a separate invasion led by the ambition of an individual? Only time will tell.

After the battle the Realmgate shifted to Slaughterfields.

After their defeat at Riven Depths the Ghosts of the Crimson Path retreated north, hugging the coastline of the Lake of Shackled Spirits where their altar was located. They ran into an altar dedicated to the gods of Destruction, as well as a battle-ready company of hardy Thule Brotherhood freeguilders that had also wandered into the region from the Titanworks in the west. The Battle of the Valley of Fallen Gods ensued as stars falling down from the skies drew the attention and interest of both factions. The struggle ended in a victory for the forces of Order, who secured the region by fortifying it with a hefty Garrison.

The valiant soldiers of the Thule Brotherhood seem to be ascendant, their victories shoring up their control of the west even as the hordes of Chaos gather in the east. Rumours have begun to spread that the scions of Sigmar, the dreaded Stormcast Eternals, have been sighted marching to battle side by side with the freeguild mortals. Has the war on the Flamescar Plateau already caught the sight of the God-King himself?

After the battle the Realmgate shifted to Wyrdflame Crests.

The Lifesprings in the north suddenly came under heavy assault from three directions: the Thule Brotherhood from the west, the Sunsplitterz from the east and Cult Hu from the south all rushed into this verdant region to fight for its control. At the Battle of the Lifesprings the courageous warriors of Order slew and drew the other claimants from the region, fortifying it with a Garrison to secure a steady stream of healing supplies for their war effort.

Recently each passing cycle has seen the Thule Brotherhood strengthening their grip on the Flamescar Plateau. Is the power of Chaos vaning in the face of Sigmar's descendants?

From their Garrison at the Vitriolic Swamps in the north, the Sunsplitterz marched to the Infinity Gears in great force. A spectral flotilla of the Ghosts of the Crimson Path stood in their way, trying to secure the realmgate-shifting machineries for their own ends, but suffered a close loss in the Battle for the Infinity Gears as Prophet Squinteye and his tribe drew them out, claiming the land for the orange hordes.

With no understanding of what they now possess, the orruks meddle with the strange contraptions and machines rather carelessly. Could this turn of events have dire consequences for the other warring factions? How dangerous is it to let something as powerful as the Infinity Gears to fall into the hands of the dim-witted?

After the battle the Realmgate shifted to Black Iron Peninsula. There's a rumour about saying this was caused by Sunsplitterz messing with the great northern mechanisms.

Cult Hu launched a savage attack in the north, striking deep into the Caverns of Fulminax in the dead of night to seize an ancient treasure of some kind. The warriors of the Thule Brotherhood made a stalwart stand to defend the region, confronting the forces of Chaos in the Battle of the Caverns of Fulminax where they pushed back the enemy tide despite the darkness of the night rendering their artillery nigh-useless.

The armies of Order keep enforcing their grip in the north, with fresh troops and supplies flooding in from outside the Flamescar Plateau to maintain the grinding gears of war. How long before this righteous warmachine thunders past its competitors entirely?

After the battle the Realmgate shifted to Titanworks.

The Plains of Blood in the northeast saw an eruption of violence as the forces of Chaos met the legions of Death head-on in search of invaluable tresures hidden there. In the Battle on the Plains of Blood the unmatched cunning of Cult Hu let them overcome the fleet of the Ghosts of the Crimson Path. In the vastness of the plains the armies had spread wide in search of valuables, resulting in a meeting engagement as the forces flowed onto the battlefield in small portions from their scavenging.

The forces of Chaos have been able to unify most if their domain in the Flamescar Plateau, bringing them together in the east with a chain of garrisoned fortifications. Although the star of Order has been on the ascend, rumours are spreading that the grip of the dark gods will soon be too strong for them to lift from the plateau.

After the battle the Realmgate shifted to Tears of Fate.

Prophet Wozoc led his followers into the Sporehollows, the southmost part of the great mountain range that split the Flamescar Plateau. What he hoped to find there was most likely beyond even his own comprehension, but eventually the orruks ended up making a camp in the ruins of an ancient holdfast that guarded one of the passageways into the hollows. The Sunsplitterz never made it in, though, as the Ghosts of the Crimson Path attacked just as the orruks were rummaging about to find the runestone that would unlock the passageway. In the Battle for Sporehollows the Prophet and his boyz were swept from the field in a tide of bones and blood.

Having received a new wave of reinforcements from the commanders of the Dreadfleet, the forces of Death have now been able to stall their recent chain of unfortunate setbacks. Slaughtering a mob of witless orruks and securing an entrance to the unexplored Sporehollows were only the beginning. Now the undead legions were on their way towards the original goal once more: the conquest of the Flamescar Plauteau, and ultimately, the Free City of Hammerhal.

After the battle the Realmgate shifted to Scoured Forest.

With the Sporehollows now under Death control, the forces of Order and Chaos scrambled for the last uncontrolled part of the plateau's mountain range: the Wyrdflame Crests. This badly corrupted volcanic landscape became the stage across which the Battle of the Wyrdflame Crests was fought, a dire struggle between the Thule Brotherhood and the nefarious Cult Hu. Both sides sought to slay the opposition's general, a feat that would surely scatter the enemy to the four winds, but the Wyrdflame Crests showed their fickle nature in bursts of healing energy that swept across the field from time to time. Even in these erratic circumstances the warriors of Order managed to drive the Chaos cultists back, securing themselves full three quarters of the mountain range.

Despite the soaring success of the Thule Brotherhood in recent battles, Magister Zhik'Akoot-Cot and his Cult Hu are now closer to total domination than ever before. What plots or secret operations is the cult carrying out in secret to gain so much power? Or have they pleased the Changer of Ways so greatly that the capricious god has seen fit to hand the Flamescar Plateau to his followers?

After the battle the Realmgate shifted to Caverns of Fulminax.

Making good use of their conquest's recent momentum, the Ghosts of the Crimson Path spread out into the Slaughterfields to secure the region and unify their domain. A Thule Brotherhood expedition was also making its way there in an attempt to reach the coast, but at the Battle of the Slaughterfields the forces of Death overcame these trespassers and sent the freeguilders running back to the Valley of Fallen Gods.

The Ghosts of the Crimson Path have been immensely strengthened by their recent reinforcements, and their successes on the field have resulted in a strong Death presence in the south-east.

After the battle the Realmgate shifted to Searing Sea.

Chaos was gaining power and influence over the Flamescar Plateau more than any of its three competitors. Sensing that something had to be done, that something momentous was about to take place, the Thule Brotherhood, the Sunsplitterz and the Ghosts of the Crimson Path all sent their armies billowing towards the Eyes of the Prismatikon where the nefarious Magister Zhik'Akoot-Cot was finalizing one of his latest rituals.

From the west came the serried ranks of Freeguild soldiers along with their Stormcast allies, their faces grim and determined as they marched in lockstep under their fluttering banners. From the north came the howling hordes of orange-skinned orruks, screaming their impatience and anticipation for "Da Big Scrap" to come. From the east came the eerily silent ethereal fleets of the Ghosts of the Crimson Path, leaving a wide scar of dark-red vegetation on the land to mark their passing. From the south came the main bulk of Cult Hu to reinforce their leader: a motley congregation of mortals and daemons sworn to Tzeentch, to Khorne, to Nurgle, to all or to none.

The four armies smashed into each other with a force that shook the land. Cannons roared, arms clashed and fell sorceries were flung back and forth as each faction's leader sought to claim the Prismatikon Keystone locked away in a tower around which the immense battle raged. The Second Battle of the Prismatikon was something to behold. Eventually Prophet Wozoc Squinteye managed to snatch the keystone for himself amidst the chaotic bloodshed, but was forced to watch his Sunsplitterz getting slaugthered to the last. The remaining factions thought little of the heaped orruk corpses and kept fighting each other while the Prophet was hiding behind two troggoths, his last remaining protectors, until he managed to unlock its secrets. The orruks now controlled powerful weapon called the Eyes of the Prismatikon. The armies of Chaos, Order and Death scattered from the field as the Sunsplitter Prophet held the glowing artefact high, standing upon a mound of his own dead followers as the superweapon gathered energy for a devastating attack.

The orruk triumph was short-lived, however, as the attack of the three armies had come too late. Cult Hu had merely bought a few precious moments more by luring their enemies into a fight at the Prismatikon, simultaneously completing their most important ritual elsewhere. The heavens were torn open as the power of Tzeentch was made manifest, and countless thousands of daemons poured into this reality.

AFTERMATH

Prophet Squinteye knew he'd been beaten once again, so he fired his freshly claimed superweapon at the daemon hordes, evaporating dozens in an eyeblink. He then had his boyz back at the Infinity Gears kick the controls of the Wandering Realmgate until it appeared in the tribe's main encampment at Magebane Dungeons. The Prophet and what remained of his battered tribe withdrew into the Realmgate, leaving the Flamescar Plateau to its new owners.

The Ghosts of the Crimson Path vanished from the plateau in their gheist-galleons, leaving nothing but the haunted ruins of their outposts behind them. Some day they would return here, to assert the inevitable dominance of Death on these lands. Let the mortals celebrate the fleeting glories of their ashen world. The dead could wait. The dead had nothing but time...

The warriors of the Thule Brotherhood did not give up so easily. They retreated to their fortified defense lines in the mountains, weathering the initial deamonic assaults and watching from the battlements as the rest of the Flamescar Plateau slowly warped and changed in the clutches of Chaos. For weeks they managed to hold their ground under constant attacks, but after the local towns and farms had been evacuated along with the Brotherhood's supply caravans, Captain Thule ordered an organised retreat from the Sigmar-forsaken plateau.

Magister Zhik'Akoot-Cot stood upon one of the re-captured towers of Prismatikon. The land all around him was changing. It was changing in accordance to an otherworldly music only he could hear, a music only he could play. It was glorious. His long-hatched plans had come to fruition as expected, and now he was held in high reverence by mortal and god alike. His victory was complete.
