The Ulgumgi - Instahammer 2019

Greetings!

I am both happy and wistful to post about the end of 2019 Tales of Instahammer. Happy, because my Ulgumgi are now in good condition and I can focus on other projects. Wistful, because the event was so much fun over the six months, planning conversions and exploring the theme I had set for my army!

Now, however, the Ulgumgi have gathered in great numbers for a family portret. Only 20 Hirdmen and 20 Huntsmen remain unpainted, and I'll fix that soon as well.

Behold the descendants of the Lost Battalion!

The army now borders on 1000 points, enough to have lots of joyful games with. Being a mixed Order list, I can ally them to my Puffington Host for narrative battles in a pinch!

Now let's have a more in-depth look at the units.

Here are the Hirdmen, Ulgumgi freemen militia levied from among the populations of their scattered settlements across the shadowy forests of Ulgu. Their fierce determination to fight for their homes makes up for the rather sorry quality of their wargear. This particular unit represents the retainers of Thegn Hafr Geraldsson, hailing from the Myrkrvollr settlement.

Bren Ashenbough, nature's power of creation and destruction incarnate. Once a Freeguild General, now a vengeful forest-bound spirit.

Ash-Revenants. Once Freeguild Greatswords, the fiery demise of their physical forms left their souls wandering the Ulguan woods, seeking redemption.

The higher ranks of the Ulgumgi, from left to right:

-Shaman Ronga, a mysterious wizard, blinded for his past crimes
-Thegn Aslak Varinsson, Warlord of the Menheimr settlement
-Félagi the Gryph-Hound, Aslak's loyal companion
-Myrkrvollr Shade, a nameless killer sworn to send the enemies of the Ulgumgi to afterlife
-Thegn Hafr Geraldsson, Warlord of the Myrkrvollr settlement, Chief of the Myrkrvollr Hird

Ulgumgi Trappers, skilled woodsmen armed with deadly crossbows, an extremely rare armament among the Ulgumgi. Capable of setting up cunning ambushes and vicious traps, these men are a formidable tool in any warlord's army.

Huntsmen, simply Ulgumgi freemen whose peace-time profession gives them an edge in ranged combat and far-range scouting. Without their bows, the Hirdmen masses would have a hard time advancing through the battlefield.

Although there are more Hirdmen and Huntsmen on the way, this is the bulk of my new army finished. If you'd like to read more on the army's background, check out my other posts about them in the sidebar menu, Army Showcase --> Ulgumgi.

Until next time!
