Schemy Sketches

Greetings!

I am happy to inform you that more Svedonnian models (painted) are on their way. In the meantime I'll show you some sketches I make every now and then.

After skimming through my stash of old rulebooks for Warhammer Fantasy Battles I got inspired to try out the sketch-like landscape illustrations of huge armies and battles that can be found sprinkled across the pages. What illustrations do I mean? Take a look and I think you'll see what I mean.

Recognise this? I have taken to doodling out one or two of these every now and then, I just love the way this style uses general lines and shapes to give suggestions of figures and landscaped. As much as possible is left for the onlooker's imagination.

Wind was biting and tearing at the duardin ranks arranged on the cliffs outside their hold, yanking at the centuries-old banners and sneaking under tunics and beards. Grumdi didn't even shiver. He was filled with ancestral wrath that burned bright in the corners of his eyes. In the distance the greenskin masses were getting closer by the moment. Soon they would feel a wind much more fatal than this gentle mountain breeze... a hail of hot lead.

"Loose!" Alanar barked the order, causing yet another volley of shafts to arc out into the skies. Down the slope below him the spear phalanx was under serious pressure from all sides, the enemy driving them back against the cliff. There would be no escape, the foe was too numerous. Or so they thought. Numbers count little against aelven skill and determination, as the filthy northmen would soon find out. The volley struck down from the sky, knocking dozens of barbarians off their feet. Alanar found himself smiling as he nocked another arrow to his longbow.

For those of you who actually made it all the way down here at the end I'll give a hint of what's coming... a five-player Skirmish campaign taking place in the free city of Puffington, along with a map of the city districts and a newspaper to keep people up to date of how the campaign is doing. The project os currently in its planning stage and we are building up the warbands as well as some city terrain. More information on the way in future posts!
